WELLNESS
COUNSELING
Did you know that being overweight or obese is a known risk factor for
sleep apnea, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, gall bladder
disease, breathing problems, and some cancers?
One in three American adults aged 20 through 74 are overweight. Our
office offers nutritional and dietary counseling which incorporates:
- Proper Breathing Techniques
- The food guide pyramid
- Healthy portions
- Body mass index (BMI) goals
- Delicious, simple, and economic recipes
Obesity is also linked to sleep deprivation. Research shows that
the number of hours a person sleeps influences their risk of obesity.
One study found those who slept five hours were 50% more likely to be obese,
while those who slept four hours or less were 73% more likely to be obese
due to a change in appetite control hormones produced during sleep.
Sleep deprivation may come from poor sleep hygiene, snoring and sleep
apnea, pain, and inflammation. Our office provides solutions for the
conditions that may be causing improper sleep!
